چکیده

Resonant particle production, along with many other physical processes which change the effective equation of state (EOS) during inflation, introduces a feature in the primordial power spectrum which in many models has a step-like shape. We calculate observational constraints on resonant particle production, parametrized in the form of an effective step height, Neff and location in k-space, kbreak. Combining data from the cosmic microwave background and the 2dF Galaxy Redshift Survey yields strong constraints in some regions of parameter space, although the range in k-space which can be probed is restricted to k ∼ 0.001− 0.1h Mpc. We also discuss the implications of our findings for general models which change the effective EOS during inflation. Black holes from nucleating strings.

We evaluate the probability that a loop of string that has spontaneously nucleated during inflation will form a black hole upon collapse, after the end of inflation. We then use the observational bounds on the density of primordial black holes to put constraints on the parameters of the model. Other constraints from the distortions of the microwave background and emission of gravitational radia...

The charged inflaton and its gauge fields: Preheating and initial conditions for reheating

We calculate particle production during inflation and in the early stages of reheating after inflation in models with a charged scalar field coupled to Abelian and non-Abelian gauge fields. A detailed analysis of the power spectra of primordial electric fields, magnetic fields and charge fluctuations at the end of inflation and preheating is provided. We carefully account for the Gauss constrai...

Observational Constraints on Models of Inflation from the Density Perturbation and Gravitino Production

Present data require a spectral index n ∼ > 0.95 at something like 1-σ level. If this lower bound survives it will constrain ‘new’ and ‘modular’ inflation models, while raising it to 1.00 would rule out all of these models plus many others. After inflation, gravitinos are created by the oscillating field until the ‘intermediate’ epoch when the Hubble parameter falls below the gravitino mass, or...

Production of Topological Defects at the End of Inflation

Hybrid inflation within supersymmetric grand unified theories, as well as inflation through brane collisions within braneworld cosmological models, lead to the formation of onedimensional defects. Observational data, mainly from the cosmic microwave background temperature anisotropies but also from the gravitational wave background, impose constraints on the free parameters of the models. I rev...

Gravitational production of gravitinos

It was realized early on [1] that the gravitino could pose a serious cosmological problem in the context of a hot Big-Bang, if it were once in thermal equilibrium. An unstable gravitino, for instance, would decay in the post-BigBang nucleosynthesis era, if its mass m3/2 ∼ 10 GeV, and the entropy produced would ruin the successes of Big-Bang nucleosynthesis. Similarly, if the gravitino were stab...
